Lennon admits Premier League ambitions

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has revealed he hopes to manage in the Premier League at some point in his career.

Earlier this month Lennon led the Hoops into the last 16 of the Champions League, recording a historic victory over Barcelona at Parkhead as they finished second in their group.

I m ambitious and maybe one day, if I m still good enough, a Premier League team might shine the eyes at me and it would be something to consider, he said.

I m very happy here at the minute but who knows? This time last year I was thinking about resigning, because we were 3-0 down at half-time to Kilmarnock and 15 points behind Rangers.

It s funny how football changes so quickly so I m aware it can change quickly again.

I love what I do here and have a great …

Rijkaard sacked as Saudi Arabia boss

Frank Rijkaard has been sacked as the coach of Saudi Arabia just halfway through his three-year contract.

The 50-year-old Dutchman – who was in charge of Barcelona from 2003 to 2008 – lost his job following the recent Gulf Cup of Nations, in which Saudi Arabia failed to make it out of the group stages.

They opened the tournament with a 2-0 defeat to Iraq and although a win by the same scoreline against Yemen restored some pride, a 1-0 loss to Kuwait on Sunday ended the country s hopes.

And the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) acted swiftly to dispense with Rijkaard s services as a result of the failure at the Gulf Cup.

It has been agreed with the Dutchman Mr Frank Rijkaard to terminate his contract, an official statement on the SAFF website …

Are Real Madrid about to throw the title away?

A point clear at the top of the table with two games in hand, Barcelona thrashed in the Champions League, you could forgive feeling a little smug, but the title favourites have had the grins well and truly wiped off their faces by Valencia.

Madrid blow chance to extend lead

Incredibly it was Simone Zaza who sent them on their way to defeat, yes the same Simone Zaza who seemed to have spent most of the season wondering where the goal was.

The former West Ham flop served his critics a rather stunning piece of humble pie with a gorgeous strike to make it 1-0. Munir El Haddadi fizzed the ball in from the right, Zaza with his back to goal controlled it, turned and smashed the ball into the…

Leicester City 0 Manchester City 0: Premier League´s top-scoring teams draw blank

The Premier League s two highest-scoring teams shared a goalless draw at the King Power Stadium as Leicester City missed the chance to go top and Manchester City s winless away run continued.

Manuel Pellegrini s men – 4-1 winners over Sunderland on Boxing Day as Leicester were beaten 1-0 at Liverpool – had the better of the first half, but found Kasper Schmeichel in fine form as Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling were denied by the Dane.

Leicester carried a threat of their own, though, and could have gone in ahead had Marc Albrighton been able to hook Christian Fuchs delivery into the net after Joe Hart had been taken out of the equation.

Jamie Vardy spurned an even better chance when he blazed over the target after being put through one-on-one, while…

City’s fear of Sane departure increasing

Manchester City s Leroy Sane has been long linked with a move to Bayern Munich. Manager Pep Guardiola revealed earlier that the winger was close to signing a new deal but he changed his mind at the eleventh hour. Now, according to , there is increasing fear in the Etihad dressing room that Sane s head has been completely turned by the prospect of returning to Germany, which he left when he joined City from Schalke 04 in 2016 for a total of £42 million.

Apparently, City demand £137 million to part ways with the 23-year-old who is currently recovering from a serious knee injury he suffered in the first game of the season. He s expected back in the team some time in February or March, and will likely have a role to play in the final stretch of the season.

Arsenal eyeing Arteta an ´incredible honour´, says Guardiola

Pep Guardiola would be reluctant to stand in Mikel Arteta s way if he had the privilege of being offered the Arsenal job.

Arteta finished his playing career with the north London club in 2016 before joining Guardiola s backroom staff at City.

The Gunners are on the lookout for a new head coach after Unai Emery was sacked in the aftermath of a 2-1 Europa League defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt that extended their winless run to seven matches.

Arteta has become an increasingly influential member of Guardiola s coaching team, especially since long-time confidant Domenec Torrent left to take charge of MLS side New York City last year, and Raheem Sterling has credited extra sessions with the ex-Everton midfielder for aiding his rapid development.

His rising stoc…

Bitesize Prediction: Crystal Palace vs Norwich City – 28/12/21

Market: Over 1.5 goals

Odds: 4/11 @

Desperate to make a return to winning ways in midweek, Crystal Palace will welcome Norwich to Selhurst Park on Tuesday afternoon.

Starting with the hosts, blown away on Boxing Day and hit with a 3-0 drumming away at Tottenham, Crystal Palace really do have the feel of a side seeking some stability. With Patrick Vieira missing from their dugout on Sunday afternoon after returning a positive COVID-19 test, the one-time Arsenal icon has seen his side win just one of their previous seven Premier League outings. Still battling it out in the bottom-half of the table, it appears Palace s 3-1 win against Everton could have just been a minor boost. Last seen at Selhurst Park playing out a 2-2 draw against Southampton, the Eagles have a…

Tuchel feels Chelsea are a ´perfect fit´ after disappointment of PSG sack

Thomas Tuchel feels Chelsea have been a perfect fit since his first day at the club after some early misgivings about his length of contract.

Having been sacked in December 2020 by Paris Saint-Germain, Tuchel was appointed Frank Lampard s replacement at Stamford Bridge in January on an 18-month contract, suggesting there were some concerns about his long-term suitability to the job.

The former Borussia Dortmund boss has proved a shrewd choice for the Blues, though. Having won the Champions League in May, Tuchel has guided his side to a two-point lead at the top of the Premier League in 2021-22, with eight wins from 10 games.

With change coming at London rivals Tottenham – Antonio Conte is the heavy favourite to take over from the sacked Nuno Espirito Santo –…

Billion-pound breakthrough should come as no surprise – Mauricio Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino said football’s stakeholders should not be hypocritical in their judgement of Chelsea after the club’s spending surpassed £1billion under the ownership of Todd Boehly.

The £40million signing of Cole Palmer from Manchester City on Friday pushed total outlay during the last 16 months into 10 figures, with more than £400m having been spent on 12 players in the summer window alone.

That has in part been offset by player sales for significant fees earlier in the window with 14 first-team departures since the end of the last season, most notably midfielders Kai Havertz and Mason Mount who left for a combined £120m.
