Manning not dwelling on past glory

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning believes his side s 2008 Superbowl victory will have no impact on this year s decider.

Manning and his team-mates were 17-14 winners against the New England Patriots in Arizona in the 2008 showpiece and the same teams will meet again in Indianapolis on Sunday.

What happened in the last Superbowl doesn t matter, Manning said.

I think we have 16 guys, New England s only got seven guys, who were on that team, so a lot of guys who are going to be key factors in this game did not play in that last Superbowl. I think we have to have the mind-set that s it s a new game.

It didn t really matter who the opponent was. I just wanted to be here (at the Superbowl).

I m happy just to be here, and I know we re going to be playing a great opponent a great team and I m looking forward to that challenge.

New England head coach Bill Belichick is looking forward to the match but knows his side will face a stern test against the Giants.

It s championship game, it s what you work all year for. To play and coach in this game, Belichick said.

The Giants are good. On offence, defence and special teams, they are well coached and tough. We ll have to match their effort and give a little bit more.

This (is) our opportunity to do it and we ll put our best into it, we do that regardless of who the opponent is.
